About us
Ferma develops bacterial cellulose materials for the design industry, bringing together fermentation production, material research and design.
What is Bacteria Cellulose?
Bacterial cellulose is a natural fibre, the same type found in paper, but grown by bacteria rather than sourced from wood. During fermentation, it forms a layer on the surface of the liquid.
How we work
Production
Fermatex is Ferma's range of bacterial cellulose materials. Working with scientists and manufacturing partners, we improve material performance and develop consistent, scalable production.
Experimentation
We start by observing the material: how it behaves, where its strengths lie and what possibilities it offers. We let these qualities guide each experiment.
Collaboration
Together with designers and brands, we explore how Fermatex can meet the needs of real projects, taking biomaterials further into commercial use.
